“A bespoke, dynamic regional health economy escalation management system”

The Escalation Management System was a tool developed to provide “at a glance” graphical presentation of escalation status across health economies. The system was built to support integrated response to emergency and urgent care needs through a harmonised set of escalation polices and trigger points. The system provides a means to collect real time capacity, escalation level and later major incident related information through a simple and intuitive tool available to Acute Trusts and PCTS in the adopting SHA regions.

It provides a helicopter view of pressure across health economies to all users. It is populated locally using regionally-agreed escalation triggers and is key to all managers on call when accessing regional/cluster pressure.

The EMS functionalities underpin the surge planning strategy for all health and social care partners. This allows transparency across the whole system.
